Frequently Asked Questions

Q
What is the difference between the different breeds of cats?
While its true that all cats have their own individual personalities, there are certain traits associated with specific breeds. The Egyptian Mau are a quiet cat who do not make a lot of noise. On the other hand the Tonkinese are very vocal and will often follow you around and talk to you.
Q
Why phabbay cats?
As animal lovers we have a real passion for cats having had them around for over 50 years and breeding for over 20 years. All our cats are given special attention every day and our kittens are always well handled from the off and so are not only used to human company but seek it out! If you are looking for a family pet who gets on with the whole family or are looking for a pet companion for yourself, you will love the temproment of phabbay cats.
Q
How often do phabbay cats have kittens available?
We usually have at least two litters every year. Phabbay cats is not a business but is something we love to do in our spare time. Therefore some years we may have a few litters of kittens whereas other not so many. Please contact us at wilma@phabbaycats.co.uk for more info
Q
How much do kittens cost?
Pedigree cats vary in price according to breed and location although you should expect to pay less than 500 for most. As animal lovers we are keen to see the kittens going to good homes which is more important to us than costs. Breeding is something we do in our spare time and we have to work part time to support this passion. We do give discounts where two or more kittens go together as we like to know they are company for one another and consequently a good quality of life.
Q
Do phabbay cats have their own stud?
Yes we have our handsome boy Hamish who is Tonkinese and sires some of our litters. We do allow Hamish to mate with other queens of breeders looking for studs.
Q
Where are phabbay cats located?
We live in central Scotland half way between Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Q
What do cats like to eat/drink?
Cats love all sorts of food including cat meat, cat biscuits and treats such as chicken or fish (boneless). Contrary to popular belief cats do not particularly enjoy milk and infact it can cause digestive issues. Instead they should be given clean water daily.
Q
Do cats scratch furniture and/or carpets?
If they have specific scratching posts and other things to entertain them then generally speaking no. However there may be the odd accidental breakage at times which comes with any pet.
Q
How much maintenance do cats require?
Cats are very clean animals who wash themselves frequently every day. Long haired cats do require extra grooming to avoid furballs however we do like to see our kittens going to fellow animal lovers who give that extra attention anyway. Our cats are litter trained and require their litter box to be cleaned at least 3 times a week as they do not like dirty litter trays. Cats should be given fresh water once a day and fed twice a day. Phabbay cats love human company and do not like to be left alone for long periods of time.
Q
Is it possible to make money from breeding cats?
This is something that breeders are asked often. In our experience breeding is not a form of income. When you account for the food, vetinary care, stud fee's and other associated costs you are unlikely to make much if any money. Some less reputable breeders have many cats from which they breed at a time and can therefore make a bit more money but this typically results in less time and therefore care and attention being given to the kittens and as a result the kittens are not as affectionate towards humans.
